26 of the best luxury Mother's Day gifts for mum

When it comes to celebrating Mother's Day, there's no right or wrong way to show your appreciation for mum. Some like to say, 'I love you' with luxury splurges, others prefer to make it an extended family affair (including grandmothers for a sit-down lunch) while some just like a cooked breakfast prepared by the kids.

Personally, I look forward to lying in bed a little longer instead of being the first up, while my partner prepares breakfast and the kids ferry it up the stairs.  It's a chance to sit back, do less, indulge in the hand-made card and unwrap the vinyl records I've trained my family into purchasing regardless of the occasion. As long as it can be filed under rock, garage, country or punk, I'm smiling from the A side to the B.

But since not all mums are the same, here's a list of some of the best Mother's Day gift ideas...straight from a mother's mouth.

Flavoured treats

The Langham Melbourne will be hosting a decadent afternoon of sweet and savoury treats with The Greatest High Tea, a nod to the Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Showman (there's a semi-freddo named after the movie) while The Westin Melbourne will be serving a high tea with live jazz to raise funds for The Royal Women's Hospital Miracle Mums Appeal.

For Champagne fans, Mumm have released a new bottle design launching in time for Mother's Day and just in time to serve the Grand Cordon and Grand Cordon Rosé. While you can't buy a bottle just yet, you can treat mum to lunch at The Winery in Surry Hills, Sydney, or Left Bank in Melbourne with both venues serving these varieties in the new design created by Welsh artist and industrial designer Ross Lovegrove.

If you prefer to open a bottle at home, then the Krug Rosè is the catch for the day. A subtle bubble made of three grape varieties of different vintages with an expressive skin fermented Pinot Noir wine for spice.

Hey big spender

Nothing beats a luxury fashion purchase either – beat the queue to own Gucci's latest ironic logo emblazoned shoulder bag dubbed 'Guccy' in black and sparkly gold or Attico's freckle decorated anklet cuff for a sweet moment at Harrolds.

And a grooming indulgence never goes astray,  and Dyson's hairdryer is perfect for the mum who wants less noise and better results. Alternatively, a new GHD straightener that gives ironing a new meaning.

Get her in a relaxed mood with a pair of Max Mara slides in a floral weekend print or monogrammed robe for bedroom bliss. For a more conscientious purchase, you could also try Witchery's white range which raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research while Mimco X EFI (Ethical Fashion Initiative) has released a pair of black drop earrings dubbed Biome for a hand to heart creation.

Fashion house Marimekko celebrates 50 years of its Tasaraita stripe – why not rendezvous like it's the late '60s era with a stripy dress or t-shirt for a nod to gender equality.

There's Laurence Brabant punk themed vases for edgy arrangements, teapots that exude Moroccan tea houses from t2 or embrace racy red lips with a Tom Ford pick-me-up.

Decadence and delight

New beauty products never go astray, show her you're on the money with La Prairie's new skin caviar foundation – a powdered liquid designed to add glow and boost tired skin with a handy SPF 25 too while Hourglass has introduced a new highlighting stick in five shades for that seamless, instant glow.

If a new fragrance is the way to her heart there's Commodity's Magnolia – all soft florals and dewy greens and Versace's Dylan Blue – loaded on blackcurrant sorbet and Granny Smith apple while Tocca's new fragrance Maya is an ode to Maya Angelou, the American poet laureate. It too hits all the right notes from bitter orange to sweet violet leaf for female pride.

And if one can wait until August to celebrate, book a trip to Emirates One & Only Wolgan Valley (prices start from $2090 for two nights) and secure a facial treatment with Jocelyn Petroni (she looks after the skin of model Jessica Gomes). Petroni's facials are like no other and she'll be at the resort over two days on 31 August and 1 September this year. The accommodation package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner daily with private pool.
