Stand down fashionable footballers of all codes, step back natty netballers and basketballers, and consolations to stylin' swimmers, golfers and tennis players.
Australia's most stylish sportsperson, as judged by American publication Sports Illustrated is … a snowboarder.
Torah Bright was the sole Australian named when SI pulled together its inaugural listing of the 50 most stylish sportspeople on the planet.
In the heavily America-centric "Fashionable 50" list, Bright was among a handful of non-US athletes to score a mention. She's listed in the 11 to 50 range, as the top 10 were the only ones to be ranked.
"Fashion is a large part of the snowboarding world and 29-year-old Bright has helped to transform slope style for women," Sports Illustrated remarks.
"The Australia native turned her passion for snowboarding and long-time partnership with Roxy into a successful collection of outdoor gear. Bright created pieces that are both feminine and functional, featuring sleek designs, on-trend colors and technical fabrics.
"Her personal style is typically casual yet chic—you'll see her in soft colours and comfortable athleisure pieces.
"But fans have also seen Bright's glamorous side for red carpet appearances, while hitting the fashion runways, and in costume on Dancing with the Stars in Australia."
In stylish company
In coming to SI's attention as a fashion leader she's in exceptional company. Other non-American sports stars to be included in the Top 50 included Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Mario Balotelli (soccer), Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova (tennis) and Lewis Hamilton (F1).
Among the strong US contingent are Serena and Venus Williams (tennis), LeBron James and Dwayne Wade (basketball), Laila Ali (boxing), Tom Brady (American football), Danica Patrick (motorsport) and Shaun White (snowboarding).
Cruzin' to victory
The overall winner, as judged by a nine-person panel that included six style experts and three Sports Illustrated swimwear models, was American football player Victor Cruz of the New York Giants.
"Football gave me a platform to show the world how I dress," Cruz says.
"Even on the field, I make sure I'm always cleaned up, my jersey's never un-tucked, my socks are always pulled up and my spikes always look well kept, neat and new.
"I make sure the way I look on the field is the same way I look off the field as well."
