David Jones previews menswear trends

The ladies may have provided the glamour, but the gents popped the colour when fashion retailer David Jones hit the runway on Wednesday night to show off its 2015 spring/summer collection in Sydney.

Blue remains the hue du jour: from dark, inky navies to pale, hushed denims, the male models strode the catwalk in a smorgasbord of cerulean hues. Adding splashes of iridescent red, cocktail yellow and pea-soup green, it was almost as if the David Jones runway had become an extension of Pitti Uomo 2015

My philosophy when I dress is keep it masculine, keep it simple, keep it clean.

The blues of a more rock 'n roll variety almost stole the show, with Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns putting in an almost gig-like performance that provided an exclamation mark to the energetic fashion display.

"The number one trend in terms of colour is really around the blues," says David Jones general manager of merchandise Donna Player. "Australian men like blue."

With a diverse range of local menswear brands on show - led by Zanerobe, Jac + Jack, Calibre, Jack London and Bassike - business attire mixed seamlessly with casual and swimwear pieces.

"David Jones menswear continues to be really strong," Player says. "I think we have a brilliant range of fantastic career brands and we saw some of those beautiful suits up on the runway tonight. But we're also seeing a real growth in that more contemporary fashion - more casual."

Model and US-based television presenter Jason Dundas headlined the men's showing and says he takes his role as David Jones' menswear ambassador seriously. "I have a big responsibility to inspire the men of Australia to want to shop, to want to look good, feel good and be proud of how they wear their clothes," he told 51698009

"My philosophy when I dress is keep it masculine, keep it simple, keep it clean. I'm wearing navy, black and charcoal - no logos, no branding. It fits well so it's fashion-forward but it's masculine."
